Health care to
hidden refugees

There are people living in Sweden today who are denied the basic human right of health care. Hidden refugees and those who have had their application for asylum denied have become a pariah class within society. Having no legal rights they are viewed as a cheap source of labour by unscrupulous employers and criminal gangs. Some hidden refugees have lived in Sweden for many years and live in constant fear of being discovered or denounced. More than 2000 refugees are currently in hiding in Sweden.

The policy of Läkare i Världen is that no human being is illegal and that access to health care is a human right. For this reason, we run a clinic for hidden refugees in Stockholm, where we attend to those in need once a week at a location unknown to the authorities. Similar clinics exist in Gothenburg (Rosengrenska) and Malmö.
